Substance Use
Addiction is a treatable disease. Our CARF-accredited programs cover substance use care in Western Kentucky, from residential treatment and medication-assisted treatment to outpatient counseling and recovery housing. You can start at whichever level fits your situation and move between them as your needs change.

Getting started
- What to Expect What happens when you start addiction treatment at RiverValley: the first call, the ASAM assessment, choosing a level of care, and what comes after.
- Resources Crisis numbers, SAMHSA's helpline, AA, NA and SMART Recovery meetings, support for families, and help with housing and work during recovery.
Services we provide
We treat alcohol, opioid and other substance use disorders, using the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria to match each person to a level of care. Addiction rarely shows up alone, so treatment also covers co-occurring mental health conditions, trauma and the life circumstances that get in the way of recovery.
Residential treatment happens at The Amethyst Center for women and mothers and The Onyx Center for men, both with 24/7 supervised care in a home-like setting. Afterward, The Pearl House and The Jade House offer NARR-certified recovery housing with structure and peer support while you move back toward independent living.
Outpatient services include individual and group counseling, intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with FDA-approved medications such as buprenorphine and naltrexone. Many appointments can be done by telehealth.
ROSES For Moms supports pregnant and parenting women in recovery with case management, housing assistance and career development.
Recovery looks different for everyone, so the treatment plan is built around your life and your goals. Services are available across our seven-county area.
