Residential Treatment for Men

The Onyx Center is RiverValley’s 16-bed residential treatment program for men with substance use disorders, including those with co-occurring mental health conditions. It is in Owensboro, staffed around the clock, and pairs therapy with peer support, family education and a long aftercare program.

Treatment uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and individual psychotherapy, and addresses addiction and any co-occurring mental health condition at the same time rather than one after the other.

The residential phase lasts about four weeks: individual therapy, groups, family education sessions and activity-based work, alongside other men going through the same thing.

A licensed drug and alcohol counselor and a clinical counselor lead the treatment team. Psychiatric care is available by telehealth and through emergency services.

After discharge comes 11 months of aftercare: weekly group sessions and monthly outpatient therapy. Men who move into The Jade House recovery residence have housing, transportation, food and other essentials covered for the first six months.

Careers First, our employment program, partners with more than 50 employers who hire adults in recovery. Case managers help with resumes, interviews and job goals.
