Outpatient Therapy & Crisis Services for Mothers
Sometimes what pregnancy or a new baby brings on is more than stress. RiverValley offers outpatient therapy and crisis support for mothers dealing with perinatal depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use or other mental health problems during pregnancy and after.

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders affect as many as 1 in 5 mothers, which makes them the most common complication of pregnancy and childbirth. They are treatable.
Outpatient services include individual counseling, group therapy, and medication evaluation and management. Clinicians use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused approaches and motivational interviewing, adapted for pregnancy and the postpartum months.
If substance use is part of the picture, therapy and substance use treatment are handled together, and your therapist works with the prescriber, peer support specialist and case manager on one plan.
Established patients can meet by telehealth, which helps when leaving the house with a newborn is the hard part.
In a crisis, the crisis line at (800) 433-7291 is answered 24/7 by trained counselors who can help you through it, make a safety plan and refer you on. The Mobile Crisis Team can come to you when needed.
For a crisis that needs more than a phone call or a visit, The Phoenix Center offers short-term residential stabilization, less confining than a hospital, with a safety and recovery plan built with you and your family.
Call (270) 689-6879 to schedule an appointment, or the crisis line any time at (800) 433-7291.

What to Expect
The first appointment takes 45 to 60 minutes and covers how you are doing, your medical history and what is worrying you. From that, you and the clinician build a treatment plan that fits your schedule and your family.
Follow-ups are usually weekly or every other week. If medication is recommended, our prescribers are experienced with medications that are safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Between appointments, you can call with questions.
