KY-Moms MATR

KY-Moms Maternal Assistance Toward Recovery (MATR) is a prevention program for expectant mothers at risk of using alcohol, tobacco or other drugs, aimed at reducing harm to the baby during and after pregnancy.

It is education, not treatment: one-on-one sessions where a mother can learn about the risks and decide what she wants to do, without being labeled.

Sessions cover how alcohol, tobacco and other drugs affect a developing baby, why prenatal care matters, coping strategies, and community resources that support a healthy pregnancy.

RiverValley’s Regional Prevention Center runs the program for pregnant and postpartum women in our seven-county area. Specialists meet with participants at our offices, at partner clinics, or wherever the mother is most comfortable.

KY-Moms MATR is a statewide program coordinated by the Kentucky Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities; RiverValley is the provider for the Green River region.

If a mother needs treatment rather than education, the MATR specialist can refer her directly to ROSES For Moms, The Amethyst Center or outpatient therapy.

What to Expect

The program is voluntary. Participants meet with a MATR specialist for a series of one-on-one sessions, scheduled at times and places that work for them.

It is free, open to any expectant or postpartum mother in the region, and no referral is required. To start, or to refer a client, call Point of Entry at (270) 689-6879.
