Michelle P Waiver Case Management
The Michelle P Waiver (MPW) is a Kentucky Medicaid program that pays for support services so people with an intellectual or developmental disability, at any age, can stay in their own homes. RiverValley’s MPW case managers handle the waiver process with you and arrange the services it covers.

The waiver is part of Kentucky’s 1915(c) Home and Community Based Services Medicaid program, meant as an alternative to institutional care.
It covers case management, personal care assistance, respite for family caregivers, adult day training, behavioral support, community living supports, home modifications and more. Participants can use a provider agency or hire their own workers through Kentucky’s Participant Directed Services (PDS) option.
Your case manager assesses needs, writes the service plan, arranges the waiver services and keeps checking they are delivered. For parents, that includes finding the educational and therapeutic supports the waiver can fund for a child.
To qualify, a person must have a documented intellectual or developmental disability, need a level of care that would otherwise mean an institution, and meet Medicaid financial requirements. A psychological evaluation with an adaptive behavior assessment is required. Our team walks you through the application.
There is currently a waitlist for the Michelle P Waiver in Kentucky. You can receive services on one waiver while waiting for another, and our case managers can go through the options with you. To apply for Medicaid, visit kynect.ky.gov or contact your local Medicaid office.
