Crisis Resources and Emergency Contacts
Crisis numbers, specialized lines, and what to do if someone you know is in trouble.

Keep these numbers somewhere you can find them. In a hard moment, not having to search for help matters more than you’d think.
Immediate Crisis Support
Call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (available 24/7, free, confidential). Reach RiverValley’s crisis team directly at (800) 433-7291. TDD line for deaf or hard-of-hearing: (800) 769-4920. Chat online at 988lifeline.org. For medical emergencies, always call 911.
Specialized Crisis Lines
Veterans Crisis Line: press 1 after calling 988. Spanish language support: press 2 after calling 988. LGBTQ+ youth: The Trevor Project at 1-866-488-7386 or text START to 678-678. SAMHSA National Helpline: 1-800-662-4357 (free referrals 24/7).
Crisis Recognition
Warning signs include talking about wanting to die or hurt themselves, hopelessness, pulling away from people and activities, sudden mood changes, heavier drinking or drug use, giving away possessions, and saying they are a burden. If you see these in someone, take them seriously and call.
Supporting Someone in Crisis
Stay calm and listen without judgment. Take any mention of self-harm seriously. If you can, remove guns, medications or anything else they could use to hurt themselves. Stay with the person until help arrives. Call 988 or (800) 433-7291 for guidance on what to do.
Local Services
RiverValley runs The Phoenix Center (short-term residential crisis stabilization), the Mobile Crisis Team (in-home and community response) and IDD Crisis Services. CredibleMind, linked from the top of this site, has free mental health and wellness resources.
Call (270) 689-6879 or request an appointment online to start treatment. Walk-ins are welcome at our outpatient locations.
